The most important aspect to your announcement will be the photograph or photographs that you choose. As such, we have created some photo tips for you to follow that will help ensure that your announcement or invitation is just as you envisioned!

Using a Professional Photographer
We highly recommend hiring a professional photographer who specializes in photographing babies and children. Their experience will help you get the perfect photographs for your announcement, which will become a treasured keepsake. If you have an announcement design in mind let your photographer know so that she can take photos that will best suit your design. Please note, that if sending professional photographs, you must have the permission of the photographer to reproduce the image. By sending your photographs, you acknowledge that you own the rights to the photographs and give Zabots Design permission to reproduce the images.

If in the Southwest Colorado area and you are interested in hiring a professional photographer, we highly recommend and endorse Heidi Chowen Photography. Please click here to visit her website.

Photo Quality
If you are using a digital camera or a scanner, you want to make sure that you have the settings at the highest possible resolution. We recommend that your photographs be at least 300 dpi or 1800 x 1200 pixels. Often a low resolution photo will appear very good on your monitor, but will not have a good quality when printed. Make sure that all fingerprints and dust have been wiped away from your camera lens or scanner. All images should be saved as .jpg documents. Please send us the original photograph. We will do any adjustments that your photograph needs including converting it to black and white or sepia tones. If you have some ideas of what you would like to see, please let us know!

Focus, Focus, Focus
Focus will be one of the most important aspects of your picture. We can not sharpen an out of focus photo.

Background and Clothing
The background for your photo as well as your baby’s clothing should be as neutral as possible with no loud patterns or colors. A neutral colored piece of fabric or towel can be laid down so that the background is even and consistent. Use contrast to your advantage.

Lighting
Natural light is the best choice for your photos. It is the most glittering and will provide the richest colors for your photograph. Try taking photos in a well lit room or near a window. If you are taking photographs outside, an overcast day can actually provide a better natural light because harsh shadows are eliminated. Your baby or other subjects will be more comfortable as well!

Framing Your Shot
Your baby is the focal point of your shot so get close, but do leave some room around your subject for cropping if necessary. Experiment! Take lots of shots from many different angles. You never know which photograph you will fall in love with.

Choosing Your Photograph
If you are having a hard time choosing a photo to use, send us more than one! We can take a look at your photographs and determine which ones will fit into the design that you have chosen and give you the best finished product!

Sending Us Your Photo
Once we have received your order, you will receive an email instructing you to email us your photos. Please make sure that when you send us your photos that the subject line contains the first and last name from your order. Once we receive your photos we will send you an email confirmation. If you would like to mail your photographs to us, please contact us for mailing information.
